Reinstalling the Operating System

Windows XP Professional Users

We recommend that you read all steps before attempting this process.  Some steps might vary depending on your particular unit.  Please perform these steps with caution if you are a novice PC user.

Step 1. Back up all necessary data.  Depending on how much data you have will determine the best method.

Step 2. Locate your Windows XP Professional installation CD-ROM.

Step 3. Configure your BIOS to boot from CD-ROM if needed.

Step 4. Load your XP Professional installation CD and reboot the unit.

Step 5. Press a key after you see the following message "Press any key to boot from CD."

Step 6. Press the enter key to continue the setup after Windows finishes loading the setup files.

Step 7. Press F8 to accept the Windows license agreement.

Step 8. Press the letter D to delete the current partition.

Step 9. Choose "perform quick format using the NTFS file system" and then press enter.

Step 10. Your PC will now reboot and begin the actual installation of Windows XP Professional.

Step 11. Ignore this message the second time through "Press any key to boot from CD."

Step 12. Select your regional and language options.

Step 13. Enter your name and organization.  The organization field in not necessary.

Step 14. Enter your 25 digit product key code.

Step 15. Enter your Administrator password.  We recommend using something you will not forget.

Step 16. Select your date and time settings.

Step 17. After about 30 to 45 minutes you will arrive at the Windows splash screen.

Step 18. You can skip the "configure the internet" and "Windows activation" steps.  You can do these at a later time.

Step 19. Create User Accounts.

Sometimes the OS reinstall process is not a smooth one especially if it is your first time.  We now recommend you check your device manager to make sure all of your drivers carried over during the installation process.  Go to "start", "run", type "devmgmt.msc" and select okay.  If you do not see any yellow question marks then most likely all of your drivers are installed.  If you have a yellow question mark under "Network adapters" for example then you will need to install the drivers for this device.  If you do not have the drivers CD-ROM that came with your unit then you will have to go the the manufactures website.

*Note operating system installation may vary depending on the model of your pc.
